Charles R. Montgomery's Obituary
Charles R. Montgomery of Lecanto, Florida and formerly of St Petersburg, Florida, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Florida. He was 84.
Charles was born February 10, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama; the beloved son of the late Ren and Catherine Montgomery. Throughout his career, he devoted 30+ years an over the road truck driver and in the course of his travels he encompassed all 48 of the contiguous United States. During his free time, Charles was a gifted woodworker using his skills to create multiple keepsakes and furniture items for his family. He also enjoyed time spent working in his yard and garden. After retirement, he also enjoyed working in the woods on his property clearing trees and being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joe Montgomery. Charles leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 64+ years, Barbara G. Montgomery and their two beloved children; Charles B. “Chuck” Montgomery and Cathy Meyer. He is the loving grandfather of Melissa Hamersma-Hughey, Alexander Meyer and Mikayla Meyer and the great grandfather of Mackenzie Hughey. He is also the dear brother of Catherine Justice.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation 14499 North Dale Mabry Highway, Suite 139, Tampa, FL 33618.
