Charles "Chuck" Marshall Melton's Obituary
Charles Marshall Melton, “Chuck,” 61 lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma on October 20, 2022. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was the son of predeceased Joseph and Betty Melton. Chuck was born and raised in St Petersburg, FL, a 1979 graduate of Gibbs High School where he played football and was active in the music department. Being a self-taught guitarist and vocalist, Chuck was a guest musician with local bands but he also formed several of his own to include; The Changemakers, The Knaves, and 1 Day Weekend. His recent band, 1 Day Weekend played at Raymond James Stadium for home Buccaneer pre-games and also played at Ferg’s in Tampa before the Tampa Bay Lightning home games. Recently, Chuck retired from Frontier Communication Company with 22 years of service. Chuck is survived by his wife, Heather, who were together for nearly 30 years, his only child, Jeneve Megan Melton, his sister Karen Jackson (Bill) of St Petersburg, Jody Harnsberger (Stephen) of Kingsport, TN, mother-in-law, Joyce Hail, father-in-law, Howard Hail, sister-in-law, Holly of St Petersburg, brother-in-law, Porter Hail of Clearwater, and a half brother-in-law, Jay Johnson of Ellenton, FL. He’s survived by Uncle Robert Maggard of Oakdale, LA. Also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Chuck leaves behind his band mates and loyal friends, Jay Hodge of TN and Robert Julia of NC. He also leaves behind his friend from childhood, Scott Coleman. He remained friends with many of his classmates from Gibbs High School, and developed long lasting friendships with his co-workers. There are many musicians along the way that will miss Chuck’s enthusiasm and his love for music! Finally, we thank those faithful friends and co-workers who sustained Chuck’s family towards the end, and wish to thank all those family and friends that drove hours to make sure they could say their last good-byes. Memorial services will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 12pm.
