Carol Ann Strahlman's Obituary
Carol Ann Strahlman of Westminster MD passed peacefully on Tuesday evening, May 28, 2019 at Suncoast Hospice, Pinellas Park, FL at age 86.
Carol was born on February 8, 1933 in Lubbock, TX; the beautiful daughter of the late Vestal and Billie Nell Lott. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Gene Lott. Carol is survived by her son, Dr. R. Scott Strahlman (Teri) and daughter, Susan Kerr (Ray). She is the loving grandmother to six grandchildren; Stephanie (Randall), Michael (Tarja), Jacob (Sarah), Megan, Wesley and Matthew. Carol also leaves behind her great granddaughter, Sini.
She spent most of her childhood in the small town of Pecos, TX with her mom, dad & brother Gene. From there, her family moved to New York City which was quite a culture shock for her.
Carol went on to graduate from Queens College in New York with a B.A. Degree in Education. She taught kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade in Northern Virginia and Maryland.
Before moving to Westminster, MD, Carol was a long-time resident of Severna Park, MD. During that time, she was the host and producer of the talk show “Second Cup of Coffee” on WNAV radio in Annapolis, MD. Carol enjoyed interviewing local and national politicians along with many celebrities that came to town.
Carol had the distinction of being the first woman news anchor for WCBM radio. She also covered the MD legislature and Governor’s office for WBAL radio and TV as well as other radio stations in Maryland and Washington DC.
Carol served as Press Secretary for Ted Venetoulis during his term as Baltimore County Executive.
Later, she had a successful career in real estate.
She loved pink tulips, rainbows, playing bridge, doing jigsaw puzzles, and collecting dolls.
Carol was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed.
A private memorial service will be held at Lakeview Memorial Park in Sykesville, MD for the family on August 17, 2019. Afterwards, the family will host a celebration of Carol’s life for family and friends in Westminster, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetic Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
