Bob W. A. Murphy's Obituary
MURPHY, 'BOB' W. A. (Age 91) of Indian Oaks Manor ALF, Largo, and previously of The Palms of Largo, also of 6000 Park Place and Point Brittany, both of St. Petersburg, died March 9, 2007 at Palm Garden of Pinellas under the care of Hospice. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, attended the University of Michigan and Northwestern University before earning the Certified Public Accounting degree by examination from the University of Illinois in 1938. He moved to Florida from Mobile, Alabama in 1956 and to St. Petersburg two years later after he received his Florida CPA license. He opened his own CPA firm in 1960, and in 1963 was a founding partner of the firm Patterson, Sweet and Murphy, CPA's. His specialty was governmental and health care audits. He was well known in the local government circles, having served many years for the County and six local municipalities as auditor and as financial advisor on bond issues. His audit experience of hospitals and nursing homes resulted in being one of the first auditors appointed by Medicare for this area of Florida. He retired in 1974 and became active in management, finances and accounting for the Point Brittany Condominium complex, holding many and varied leadership positions. His membership in the Masonic Bodies and Shrine dates from 1945. He was a 15-year Rotarian before coming to Florida and a 15- year member of the Boca Ciega Kiwanis Club. He belonged to the American, Florida Institutes of CPA's and was a member of Lighthouse Freewill Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, Ruth Olsen Murphy; two daughters, Maurine Dorsey, Atlanta and Janet Bachus, Largo; one son, Dr. Robert O. Murphy, Albuquerque, New Mexico, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren
