Beverly Jean MacCartney's Obituary
MacCartney, Beverly, passed away June 17, 2014 at the age of 91. She was a devoted wife and mother, and an accomplished professional portrait artist. Originally from St. Louis, MO, she found her field in pastel portraiture at an early age, studying with J. Scott McNutt, Ritchie Cooper (an illustrator with the SATURDAY EVENING POST), and Dolly Anderson. Her portraits hang in many collections world wide. Many will remember her as a commissioned portrait artist at Maas Brothers. She also taught portraiture at the Adironack School for Girls in St. Petersburg, and the old St. Petersburg Art Club (now the Art Center). She was a member of the Suntan Art Center, Gulf Coast Art Center of Clearwater, Art Guild of Treasure Island, Beach Art Center of Indian Rocks Beach, and the Manatee Art League of Bradenton. Her work was frequently exhibited and won many awards in juried art competitions. She also received several of the esteemed Gold Grumbacher Awards for work in pastels. Mrs. MacCartney often sketched portraits from life and donated her art to many charitable organizations such as the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Art, local schools, and churches. Mrs. MacCartney is predeceased by her artist-husband Lowell F. MacCartney, Jr., and her son Lowell F. MacCartney, III. She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Neelands, son-in-law Jonathan Neelands, granddaughter Monica Neelands, son Bill MacCartney, daughter-in-law Gail MacCartney, and grandson, Billy MacCartney. A gathering will be held on Sunday the 22nd from 1 - 2:30pm with a service at 2:30.
