Beverly Anne Green's Obituary
Beverly Anne Green was born in Stamford, Connecticut on June 17, 1939 to Urban and Catherine Coughlin, the third of what would ultimately be 13 children. She died peacefully in St. Petersburg surrounded by family on January 9, 2024, at the age of 84. Known for her infectious laugh and boundless optimism, Beverly never met a stranger and never turned away anyone in need. A lifelong baseball fan, Beverly was devoted to the Tampa Bay Rays and enjoyed the games best with a hotdog and mustard, a pretzel with cheese sauce ,and an ice cold beer.
Beverly was widely known to “embellish” stories from time to time. Those wishing to verify the details of any particularly farfetched tails are welcome to reach out to other family members for verification—although you are warned that certain family members may have inherited this same trait. You will know you have found such a member if you get a completely different, but equally farfetched, version of the same or similar tale. Notwithstanding this penchant, she was painfully honest about her height, rarely rounding up her lofty 4 foot and 11 3/4 inches. One would, however, quickly be corrected if one forgot to mention the 3/4 inches. Notwithstanding her diminutive height, she loved high healed shoes and anything that would make her entrance into a room sparkle.
She joined the Air Force in 1956, where she met her first husband, James Green, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They married in 1958 and had six children together. They divorced in 1972, and Beverly moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to rejoin other family members who chose to leave the cold of Connecticut for the balmy beaches of the Florida Gulf Coast.
Beverly remained in the Air Force, becoming a Reservist, where she met her second husband, Michael Ogershok in 1980 and they were together for more than forty years, until his death in 2020. I
In Florida, Beverly began a long career in telecommunications, retiring first from GTE and later from Progress Telecom. She suffered a stroke almost 20 years ago, and family and friends marveled at her fighting spirit as she never let it slow her down, diminish her smile, or stop her from laughing at whatever situation, funny or not, presented itself.
Beverly joined the fellowship of Jehovah’s Witness and remained active in the Skyview congregation until her death.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Urban and Catherine, sister Mary Ellen Fabricatore, brother Tom Coughlin, sister Faith Markovich, baby sister Cathleen, sister Loretta (Sissy) McAllister, and her twin brothers, Patrick and Michael. She is survived by brother Steven Coughlin, sister Kathy Stover, her sister Maureen (Reenie), sister Claire Comber, her brother Robert Coughlin, sister Susan Meagher.
She was most proud of her six children and grandchildren, all of whom survive her: Ron Green of Amarillo, Texas; Kevin Green (Tina) of St. Petersburg, Florida; Tim Green (Jena) of Dawsonville, Georgia; Marty Green (Missy) of Dallas, Texas; Michael Green of Amarillo, Texas; Angela Green (Patrick) of Oxford, Mississippi; seven grandchildren: Katie Nolan, Crystal Nelson, Michelle Rivers, Abril Bates, Alexa Green, Henry Casey, and Kathryn Casey; five great-grandchildren: Calyb Nolan, Genevieve Nelson, Willow (Skye) Rivers, Ivy Nolan, and McKenzie Nelson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Suncoast Hospice, or to any charity of your choice, particularly any charity benefitting veterans.
