BETTY MARIE (DERKS) (KING) PATRUNO
ST. PETERSBURG
Betty M. Patruno, 92, passed into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 29, 2018, in Venice, FL.
Born to Larkin and Leotia Derks on August 7, 1925, Betty was raised on a farm in Ames, Iowa. Betty graduated from high school in Des Moines and was active in women’s sport’s playing varsity basketball.
She moved to St. Petersburg, FL during WW II (1944) to marry William (Bill) H. King, who served during the war in the Navy stationed aboard ship in San Francisco, CA. Eager to begin a family, Betty and Bill had four children in five years. Bill passed away at the very young age of 44 in 1971.
Betty worked in retail and also as a bank loan officer in St. Petersburg.
Betty remarried in 1975 to Pasquale Patruno, a WW II decorated Marine veteran, and they enjoyed traveling internationally and domestically whenever possible. Pasquale passed away in 2013.
She is survived by her four children: M. Annette Noren, William Stephen King, Sandra L. Perron and Wayne J. King; and three step-sons: Charles Patruno, Pasquale Patruno Jr., and Henry Patruno. There are 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Betty is also survived by one sister, Edna Rinard, five sisters-in-law, Shirley Metcalf, Eileen Derks, Virginia Derks, Donna Carey, Mary Kay Spradlin and one brother-in-law, Richard King. Betty is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her two brothers, Larkin L. Derks, Jr. and Raymond Derks and three nephews, Mike and Steve Derks and Kevin Rinard.
Along with her love of God and angels, Betty’s light will continue to shine and bring laughter to all she meets in Heaven!
Betty Patruno was a loving and selfless mother, daughter, wife, sibling, and grandmother. Her constant love and guidance was the moral compass for her family.
The Celebration of Life for Betty will be held Friday, April 6. Public visitation will begin at 10 a.m., with the Celebration of Life following at 10:30 a.m. The burial ceremony is scheduled for 11:15 a.m.
