Betty Mae Knight's Obituary
KNIGHT, Betty Mae Fox, 88, passed peacefully on January 13, 2014 at her home of 66 years and is with her loved ones, father Harrison E. Fox and mother Frances Brown Fox. She also joined her brother, Harrison W. Fox; sister, Mary Alice Adams, and many dear friends. Betty Mae was lovingly brought into this world on January 14, 1925, in Coila, New York. She took great pleasure in being a mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After her two bouts with rheumatic fever, Betty Mae's family moved from New York to St. Petersburg when she was 13. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1942, while there she met and eventually married Harry Franklin Knight. They were married for 42 years.
Betty Mae began her working career as bookkeeper with the family construction company, Fox & Fox. She was the ultimate manager of home, children, and work. Once the company was sold, she began her career at the AAA Auto Club South, Inc. where she retired in 2002 after 34 years. Besides her pride in her work accomplishments, Betty most enjoyed her home and patio where you would often find her cultivating her flowers, orchids, and grandchildren. Betty Mae devoted herself to her family and their traditions. She served as a model for all who knew her on how to handle the challenges of life. Her family will miss her welcoming nature, love of cards, humor, and advice. Remembering her with love are her son, Theodore Harry Knight with wife Carol, her daughters, Jean Marie Ferguson with husband Mike, and Jane Anne Corby with husband Nelson. Also cherishing her memory are her six grandchildren: Theodore Harry Knight Jr. with wife Susan; Julie Elizabeth Fox with husband Peter; Damon Knight Ronnlof; Leah Jane Veal with husband Scotty; Matthew Knight Corby with wife Lynn; and, Elizabeth Fox Corby. Seven great-grandchildren brought great joy into her life: Hunter and Hayden Knight; Jack and Elizabeth Fox; Mason and Samantha Corby; and, Lanie Mae Veal. In addition, many nephews and nieces benefitted from her wisdom and caring.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family asks that you take a moment to reflect on the value of family and sit in a garden and enjoy the gifts from God. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery Please contact the funeral home for details.
