Anna Louise Hayden Buchner
Ann, 95, passed away May 9, 2016 at the Tierra Pines Nursing Home. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 11, 1920 to Maude and Ira Hayden, Sr.
Ann is predeceased by her husband Howard Lincoln Buchner, Sr.
Together they started a family as WWII had begun. They had a daughter, Florence in '42, then a son, Howard, Jr, in '43, when Howard re-enlisted in the Marine Corp to serve our country where he was part of the first landing at Okinawa. Ann had the difficult job of being alone with two children to care for. After the war they were blessed with another son, Robert. Starting out in life as a daughter and sister, she became an amazing wife, mother, homemaker and friend. All that knew her loved her. From neighborhood gatherings to camping, to square dancing and bingo, Ann showered everyone with smiles, love and laughter. She loved life to the fullest. I remember how when the first snow would come, she would wake us all up no matter what time is was, so the we could go outside and catch the snow in our mouths. And, when she put roller skates on me, Butch (Howard) and herself and put baby Robert in the carriage so that we could skate up to Yale University. Her friends loved how she embraced life with her many pranks, their card games, and pot luck get together's. Ann is also predeceased by brothers Norman, Eddy, Billy and daughter-in-law, Linda . Her sister (99) Florence Smith lives in Florida. Her brothers Larry and Donnie Hayden along with their wife's, Shirley and Deedee live in Connecticut, while her other brother Ira and his wife Loraine live in West Virginia.
Her children are Florence (husband, Richard Short) of Charlotte, NC, Howard Buchner of Clearwater, Florida, and youngest son, Robert (wife Lynn) Buchner of Pinellas Park, FL. She has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Grandson Robert Buchner Jr, and his son, Brandon. Paul (wife, Kriste) Elia and their daughters, Reese and Jennifer of Marietta, GA. Jeff Elia of Sanford, FL and AnnMarie Elia, also of Sanford, FL. Margaret Buchner (husband Dillon)of Clearwater, FL. Kelli (husband George) Knuth and their six children, Keith, Kyle, Kanner, Kristian, Kayleigh, and Katie.
After Howard passed away, Ann moved in with her youngest son so they can help take care of her, for which they did for many years. She lived with them up until last year when she was placed in a very nice nursing home. Ann suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Robert and Lynn took special care of her and we, her family, thank them for all they have done. She was surrounded with love during her last moments with her hands held by Robert and Lynn.
We will miss you mom, but we know that you are in good hands with the Lord.
