Amelia Evans' Obituary
Amelia Pau'u Evans 77, of Largo FL, sadly passed away Thursday September 1st, 2022. She was born January 8th, 1945 in Ha'apai, Kingdom of Tonga to the late Viliami & Seini Fakataha Tupou.
Amelia was predeceased by Husband Mitchell T. Evans and Great-Grandson Raewyn-Metuakore Evans, Brothers (Malakai, Kuli, and Oscar) and Sisters (Mafileo, Tupou, Lata, Ane, Tonga, Esther and Elisiva)
Amelia is survived by Sons Stanley, Moses, Mitchell, Roy and Oscar; Daughter Blanche and Step-Daughter Wendy. Twenty Nine Grand Children, Seven Great-Grand Children and Two Sisters (Vika & Lalana)
She graduated from Liahona High School, a high school in Tonga owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; of which Amelia was a devout member. In fact, she was known for her strong faith and testimony.
She migrated to the Fiji Islands in the early 1960’s, married and started a family. In Fiji, her husband was an Entertainer; together they began a career in Polynesian Show Business. It was in the early 1970’s wanting a better life for their young family; they migrated to the United States via Hawaii then California. Ultimately they moved, settled and flourished in St. Petersburg Florida.
In the early 1980’s Amelia with her group “Call of Polynesia” joined the St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society (S.P.I.F.F.S), an organization that celebrates and shares the diverse cultural heritage of Tampa Bay.
As a Singer, Polynesian Dancer and Instructor with the help of her family promoted her culture through SPIFFS and entertained their community with their show business for over 45 years.
Throughout her life, she faithfully served her Family, her Faith and her community. As the Matriarch of our family her faithful example, love and influence will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 16th, from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter day Saints, 9001 106th Ave N, Largo, FL 33777, with the service on Saturday, September 17th, at 10:00 am, with entombment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
