Alma "Jean" Vought's Obituary
Vought, Alma “Jean”, 85, died Sunday, September 22nd, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born near Pensacola, Florida, on March 18, 1934 to Alma (nee Carr) and Sumler Allred. She grew up on farms and would talk about having to do all the chores before going to school. As an adult, she moved to Pinellas County with her first husband and lived in the same house for over fifty years, raising her four children, and some of her grandchildren, there. On January 4, 1991, Jean married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Vought, in that home.
Jean always had a spark to her eye. She was feisty, fun and was quite the dancer. She was brave and drove all her grandchildren, by herself, on vacations to visit her family in Crossville, Tennessee. She and Bob would travel around the country and camp with their RV. She loved the beach. Jean, a big fan of gambling, always found the time to go to the Hard Rock. Of course, she always won. If you happened to be sitting at the slot machine she wanted, she would give you a silent glare- whether she knew you are not. If you ever went out to dinner with her, you’d know how much she loved to get a margarita. Most of all, Jean was a Mom to everyone, and a Grandmother to many.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Joyce and Ruth, brother Bill, grandson Frankie, and her beloved son Tommy. She is survived by her devoted husband of 28 years, Bob, sisters Gladys McNeal, Judy Pullara-Cook (Carol), Diane Shoemaker, Carolyn Clogston, brothers Dorman Allred (Peggy) and George Allred (Evelyn); her sons, Glenn Stevens Sr, Ronald Stevens, daughters Deborah Williams and Illine Ross; stepchildren Beverly Frank, Robert “Bubba” Vought, Sue Statler, Sandy Licka, and Sharon Vought; grandchildren John O’Toole (Christine), Glenn Stevens Jr, Thomas Stevens, and Jessica Da Silva; step-grandchildren Christina Ziegler (Frank) Lisa (Damien) Millieu, Michael Statler, Elizabeth (Doug) Wiggins, Kimberly Vermillion, Amy Boyle-Markle; 21 great-grandchildren who she adored and spoke of often; and countless nieces and nephews who she loved more than life itself, and last, but not least, her much cherished and very spoiled dog, Casper.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon, Sunday, October 20th, 2019 at War Veterans Memorial Park at 9600 Bay Pines Boulevard, St. Petersburg, FL 33708. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncoast Hospice in Jean’s name.
