Alexander Augustus Nelson's Obituary
Alexander "Alex" Augustus Nelson, 75, of St. Petersburg sadly passed away on March 18, 2024. Alex was born on April 17, 1948 in Kingston, Jamaica to his parents Kenneth and Effilia. Alex grew up in Jamaica and went on to own and operate his own business in tourism, and loved taking people around the island as well as sharing his knowledge of his country with anyone he drove. He was a man of many trades, and also worked as a taxi driver, a postal worker, and a mechanic. Alex then decided to move to the United States in 2012. Alex was a family man through and through, he dearly loved his family and this same love extended to everyone he knew. He was a father figure to all of the children in the family and spread his kindness and generous spirit everywhere he went.
Alex is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Palmer and Effilia Nelson, his brothers Cameron Palmer and Roy Palmer, and sister Maureen Joy Nelson. He is survived by his loving wife Eluta Blake-Nelson (Claire), his children David Jefferson (wife Angela Jefferson), Jeffrey Nelson, Julia Goins (husband Travoir Goins), and Joel Nelson (wife Alicia Nelson); grandchildren Andrew Joel Jefferson, Craig David Jefferson, , Jonelle Jefferson, Troy Goins, Jordan Nelson, and Jude Nelson; great-granddaughter Alexia; brothers Valdi Ellis (Nedres), Kenley Brown (Vilma), Don Nelson (Vicki), Cliff Nelson, and Wain Palmer (Dewi); sister Judith Palmer; aunt Vera Palmer; and a host of cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Alex will be dearly missed and remembered by all those who love him as a wonderful man, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.
A memorial service will take place at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, April 20th at 10:00 am, followed by a repass from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
