Ada Smiley's Obituary
Ada Smiley, known to many as Ankie, was born in the fall of 1920 to Julius and Minnie Smiley in a rural farming community near Springfield, Louisiana. Her family consisted of four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by a 92 year old sister, Hazel Franks currently living in Holden, Louisana. Coming from a large family Ada has many relatives in nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country. Locally she had been in the care of her family, Dave Tyson of Clearwater, Florida, and Steve & Carolyn Tyson of Lakeland, Florida.
The Gospel was preached by two of Gods true servants in their community during the winter of 1943, and at that time she made her choice to serve the Lord along with two of her sisters and her mother. Ada moved from Louisiana to Denver, Colorado in the 50's, then moving to St. Petersburg in 1958. She was employed by The Masonic Home of St. Petersburg in Nursing for 39 years before retiring in the summer of 1997 to care for her sister Rose Tyson until her passing in January of 1998.
Ada lived alone and cared for herself until May of 2011 at which time she moved into an Assisted Living Facility in St Petersburg and had been living there until a recent fall and hip fracture in February of 2015. This resulted in hospitalization, surgery, and subsequent health issues which resulted in her passing away at 94 years old on April 20th, 2015.
Ada will always be remembered for her wit, and most especially for her quiet and humble spirit. Her love for Truth, as well her love for the Lord and His true Servants was always evident in her day to day selfless lifestyle & demeanor. Her most frequently used adage, usually heard when leaving her presence, was to "be careful, cheerful, and prayerful". For all who knew her we can say that she truly lived by her own advice. She will be dearly missed by all who were acquainted with her and we are thankful for special memories that are now treasures.
