I remember meeting Sally like it was yesterday, but it was 42 years ago. I was in my second year at NWLL, 9yo, and had been drafted by Tom Diebold with Home Federal. Pop took me to the park and as we got there, he introduced me to a man he called Smitty. After a while, we made our way to the concession stand where Pop introduced me to Bill and Sally. We all talked for a bit and Sally asked me if I knew Mr. Smith. I turned and said "Hi Smitty" as that was how I was introduced to him. Well, Mr Smith was Hink Smith, and Sally didn't like me calling him Smitty, not one bit, and she made that 100% clear. Over the years I played there, every chance I got, I'd help Sally announce games, and she taught me how to keep score in the book, and I'd help in the concession stand. Sally was one of my favorite people in this world. There was no fake in her. She was a wonderful person. Her and Bill, in my opinion are Saints for all the years of time they GAVE to the kids off NW St. Pete, just so they could play ball and stay out of trouble. Sally, you will be SO missed, and you were so loved. I just got this news yesterday our I would have been to the funeral. I hope to see you in what ever this life has next for us.... J.
