Rose "Marlene" Hannon
September 12, 1936 - March 17, 2022
Rose "Marlene" Hannon passed away on March 17, 2022 in her adopted home city of St. Petersburg, FL, while bravely battling numerous physical ailments. She was born on September 12, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA. Daughter of parents Albert Fiscus and Dorothy Ciccone. Beloved sister of Theresa Muchler and Lynda (William) Gorring. She is survived by loving sons Gregg (Leslie) Ciccone, Scott (Debbie) Urich and Tracey (Amy) Urich, grandchildren Ryan (Emma), Chad, Corbin (Katie), Dalton (Jason), Eric and Brad, great-grandchildren, Tyler, Braiden, Olivia, Lillian, Julia, Regan, and Hayes. She was pre-deceased by her son, Bart Urich. She loved her sisters, especially Theresa. She admired her intelligence and kindness and always said that Theresa is the one who remembers everything and works hard keeping the family history alive. Younger sister Lynda (the pretty sister), lived at home with their Mom, Dorothy. At every opportunity Marlene would send her four boys home to Coraopolis, PA for a couple days, weeks, month, and sometimes even the entire summer. Lynda would babysit for free and take the boys on many fun excursions, helping them with chores and reinforcing the small town values that she cherished so much. The 'old school' Italian family values in the present. As a single mother of 4 young boys, Marlene made most decisions based on how it would affect the opportunities available to them, many times to the exclusion of her own needs. Marlene was a terrific mom. Her children were her life. There was never a day that went by she didn't brag about, or curse about, all four of her beautiful boys. She unconditionally, unselfishly loved her children and supported them all her life through the many highs and difficulties of their lives. As her son's families grew, she enjoyed having them visit her in Florida. She would take her grandchildren on excursions around town, including visits to Saw Grass Park, fishing off the Redington Pier and hiking through Fort DeSoto Park. As the generations continued to grow, she embraced new technology by using FaceTime with her grandchildren and their children, her great-grandchildren. Marlene worked for many years with Gimbels, Bell Telephone, UPS and later retired from the Pinellas County Tax Collector's Office in St. Petersburg, Florida. She enjoyed traveling, thrifting, crossword puzzles, reading books, and volunteering at the local library. Marlene always had a feisty spirit and valued a strong work ethic, loyalty, honesty and frugality. She held fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and always seeking to better herself. She had an amazing sense of humor, a beautiful laugh and her wit was razor sharp. She was kind, generous and compassionate. Even when she spoke in anger, she was often the first to apologize and to try to heal what was broken. She believed in a person’s right to choose the life they want. She struggled with the concept of tough love and was fiercely independent and private. She loved her entire family, despite their quirks and disfunction. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, resented them, forgave them, and always kept on loving them. Marlene was a well respected and cherished colleague as well as a loyal friend to many. To say that Marlene's family and friends will miss her greatly, is an understatement. Our hearts are so broken by the loss of Marlene. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed and she will be desperately missed by all. At Marlene's request, there will be no memorial service. She wished for no sadness, but instead to be remembered as a hard working, loving mother, loyal, unselfish friend and esteemed, respected colleague. Cherished members of her family have chosen certain mementos of hers, to remind them of her life. Her remaining worldly possessions were donated to CASA Pinellas, an organization who's mission is to advocate for and assist women in domestic violence situations. In remembrance of Marlene's life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to CASA-Pinellas: www.casapinellas.org
