Dorothy G. Mitchell

Dorothy G. Mitchell 02/17/1927 – 02/02/2022 Dorothy was born to James and Mae Gillispie in Frankfort, Kentucky. In 1945 she married Melvin R. Mitchell and in 1956 they moved to Florida where, in 1957 they built a house in Pinellas Park. Dorothy and Melvin raised three children, Scott, Linda and Melvin Jr. Dorothy is survived by her son Scott and his wife Sue, her son Melvin and his wife Michelle, Linda’s husband Norman Brackett and 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Sr. and her daughter Linda. Dorothy worked for the F.W. Woolworth corporation for 35 years before retiring as the office manager at the store in Park Plaza in Pinellas Park. She lived in the same house, that she and Melvin built in 1957 until the end on February 2nd. She greatly loved her children and all of her grand, great, and great great, grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and watching them grow. She spent many years caring for others, her children, her husband Melvin, at the end of his life, her mother Mae, for many years after the loss of her father, and later her close friend Frank Griffith, with whom she shared her life. In the end she was cared for by her children and was able to remain at home until the Lord called her home. Dorothy knew and loved the Lord Jesus and was baptized at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Franfort, KY. She was a founding member of Sea Breeze Community Church, which later changed to Generation Church. She regularly attended services and participated with her church family until she was no longer able physically to go to services but continued to frequently ask about how her church family was doing. She lived a long, rich, life and passed in the knowledge that she was loved. Visitation is Thursday, February 10th, 2022 from 9:30 am - 10:30 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Officiating the service at 10:30 am will be Pastor Donnie Holly and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
