I’ve known Bill since I was a young kid. He always treated me very well. I’ve always had a great deal of respect for him and I always will. He hired me back in the late 60’s to work at his Shell Service station back when I was a teenager. I was too young to be a mechanic obviously so my duties consisted mainly of taking care of customers, pumping gas, cleaning windshields, checking oil and keeping things cleaned up and stocked up around the station. Gasoline filling stations back then were full service stations. I enjoyed the time I spent working there. I learned a lot from Bill just by being around the station. I could try his patience at times just by being a typical teenager but I’m thankful for the life experience I got from working there. Bill kept me on the straight and narrow and taught me a good values and good work ethic. His mentoring has served me well all of my adult life. If he was upset about something I did (or didn’t do) he would let me know about it in no uncertain terms but he would always make sure to explain why he was upset about it so I would understand why it was important to him as a business owner. With age comes wisdom and as I got older I realized that he was mentoring me to be a responsible person. I am still and will always be grateful for his mentoring . “Bill’s Kenneth City Shell” was a huge part of the history of the town of Kenneth City Fl. and all of us who lived there then still remember Kenneth City back in the days when it was much more of a laid back small town where just about everyone knew everyone else by name. Bill had many regular customers and he knew them all on a first name basis. I saw many instances where Bill took care of customers minor issues and didn’t charge them for it. I saw Bill do repairs for customers and tell them they could pay him at a later date if they were short on money at the time, especially elderly folks. Things were different back then, people looked out for each other and helped and took care of each other when needed. I will remember Bill and my time spent working with him at his Shell Station with fond and thankful memories. Bill was an excellent mechanic but more than that he was a friend and a kind man to everyone lucky enough to have known him.
I’ll always feel blessed to have had Bill Cauchon cross paths in my life. Rest in Peace Bill and thank you for the guidance that you provided to me when I was young. It made me a better person as an adult. 🙏
