My condolences in Violet’s passing. Just wanted to share a couple experiences as her nephew.
I remember when I was about 5 years old visiting Nana’s. Violet may still have been in high school or pretty recently graduated. She took me to the local drug store where she hung out. That’s what kids did back then. Drug stores had refreshment fountains. She bought me a strawberry sundae. Never had one before. A memorable experience. Violet was soooo kind.
Another memory while visiting. Violet would let me use her 45 rpm record player and play records from her 2 boxes of records. I played the same songs over and over. You were able to stack several records onto the post and they would automatically drop when the previous record stopped playing. Very high tech at the time. Violet never worried about me scratching her records or breaking her player. Mack the Knife was one of the regulars for me. A great aunt.
Later during a visit Violet taught me a card trick. A story using playing cards that I still use today once in a while. I also taught it to my granddaughter. So her teaching will be passed on. I actually saw the trick on TV recently. I always think of Violet when telling the story.
When I was in Jr. High, Violet would come over to our house on Saturday mornings and have me wash her car. She paid me more than the wash was worth. That’s how she always had been. VERY KIND HEARTED!
Patty, Christine and grand children. I’m sorry for your loss, but also happy you were able to have such a wonderful mother and grandmother.
